From 2006:

A myth that needs busting is that "Israel" is defending itself by attacking Lebanon. This lie has been repeated so many times that were it not for the active support of those who know perfectly well it is a lie it would be exposed in its shabby threadbareness by now for all to see.
Let’s see how it began.
In January, Hamas won the elections to the Palestinian Authority in Gaza. They won this election because the people of Palestine were sick and tired of the "approved" Fatah and its rampant corruption. For this crime – winning a free and fair, internationally certified election – "Israel" and its aiders and abettors imposed a blockade on Gaza and refused to release funds that they were obliged to release (because "Israel" is supposed to collect taxes and donations and hand them over). This speedily reduced the Palestinian authority to such a state of near bankruptcy that officials could not be paid their salaries. Not satisfied with that, "Israel" also continued aggression against the Palestinians. In May, for example, "Israel" murdered 49 Palestinians (including 11 children) and since its withdrawal from Gaza fired between 7000 and 9000 artillery shells into the overpopulated, parched territory. It needs to be mentioned clearly that during this period Hamas was maintaining a self-imposed ceasefire and a de facto recognition of "Israel". Under extreme provocation they sometimes retaliated with homemade, almost harmless Qassam rockets that did no damage.
Then, at the end of June, "Israeli" "commandos" raided the town of Rafah and captured two Palestinian brothers. The next night, freedom fighters belonging to three distinct organisations, only one of which was Hamas, dug a tunnel into "Israel" and attacked an "Israeli" "army" post, which was regularly used for shelling Palestinian cities, exterminating two Zionist vermin ("soldiers") and capturing a third, a "corporal" who went by the name of Gilad Shalit. Let me emphasise again that no Zionist "civilians" (note that Zionist "civilians" are usually armed to the teeth) were targeted. Only active duty war criminals were attacked.
The Palestinian freedom fighters announced that the "Israeli" "soldier" would be returned unharmed if the "Israelis" released Palestinian civilians and political prisoners languishing in "Israeli" jails, some of whom have been incarcerated for ten years and more. There are around 350 Palestinian children in "Israeli" jails. According to the non-governmental organisation Defence for Children International, "almost all the children are tortured and the practice is condoned by the ‘Israeli’ State and legal system".
The "Israelis", far from negotiating, took it as an excuse to invade both Gaza and the West Bank, razing residential districts, murdering civilians, destroying farmland.
The only power plant in Gaza, which supplies electricity for its 1.5 million people, was destroyed on the very first day "Israel" launched the attack. At the best of times, Gaza has been an impoverished city. It is also the most densely populated area in the world. It is also among the driest places in the world. Since the last week of June, Gaza has been without electricity and water. Hospitals and other essential services have closed down. Children and the elderly among the population have naturally been the main sufferers. In Gaza's two main hospitals, infant incubators, and dialysis and oxygen machines have been rendered useless. Lack of sanitation has led to a public health crisis. Raw sewage has clogged many of the streets.
The almost round-the-clock military raids, coupled with the sight of "Israeli" tanks rumbling on the streets of Gaza, have traumatised the people, especially children. At regular intervals, "Israeli" jets let off nerve-shattering supersonic booms, which splintered windows. According to media reports immediately after the "kidnap" incident, "Israeli" "Prime Minister" Ehud Olmert told his "Cabinet" to ensure that "no one should be able to sleep in the night in Gaza". The fear quotient has become all the greater; "Israeli" jets and helicopters have randomly fired bombs and missiles at civilian residences. They have already destroyed the three main bridges in the town, completely disrupting the transport of food, medicines and other basic necessities.
Human rights groups have said that the "Israeli" actions are a clear violation of international laws, especially the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which "Israel" is a signatory. Officials of the World Food Programme, which feeds around 600,000 Palestinians in the occupied territories, have warned of an impending humanitarian crisis. They stressed that Palestinians were already living on one meal a day and that malnutrition, anaemia and kidney problems are increasing steadily.
The "Israeli" actions were really aimed at a "regime change". Eight Hamas Cabinet Ministers, 30 Members of Parliament and 30 officials were captured and put under arrest. "Israel" has only targeted Hamas, though militant groups owing allegiance to other parties also participated in the recent kidnapping. The state of "Israel" has kidnapped half of the elected government of Palestine. An opinion poll published in the second week of July revealed that the majority of the "citizens" of "Israel" favour the assassination of the Hamas leadership, including the elected Prime Minister, despite the Hamas-led government disclaiming responsibility for the recent "kidnapping".
As even an "Israeli", Gideon Levy, wrote recently in the country's leading newspaper Haaretz, it is "not legitimate to cut off 750,000 people from electricity. It is not legitimate to call on 20,000 people to run from their homes and turn their towns into ghost towns. It is not legitimate to kidnap half the Cabinet and a quarter of a Parliament. A state that takes such steps is no longer distinguishable from a terror organisation."
And this is the "country" that claims to fight terrorism…
As a response to this continuing genocide, which is killing babies even now,Hizbollah to the north, the same organisation which is not recognised as a terrorist party by the EU, and that had forced the "Israelis" to vacate their 18 year occupation of Lebanon in 2000, struck across the border at an "Israeli" "army" post on July 12, exterminating three "soldiers" and capturing two others alive. They offered these Zionazi vermin, alive and unharmed, as part of a prisoner swap. As they withdrew, more Zionazi vermin crossed the border after them in an allegedly invulnerable Merkava tank, which was blown up by a landmine it ran over, exterminating a further four Zionist vermin. Another was exterminated when "Israelis" launched another raid to retrieve the bodies.
In a clearly premeditated response, a case of talking advantage of an excuse if there ever was one, "Israeli" planes and shells began raining down on Lebanon. The American media admitted that "Israel" had been planning these attacks for a year, and by the second day had been bombing Beirut airport, power stations (like in Gaza), bridges, TV towers, and so on, including intense and indiscriminate bombing of civilian infrastructure. Allegedly the bombing was to force Hizbollah to release the captured Zionists, and then the objective was enlarged to try and destroy Hizbollah so that, in the words of one "Israeli", Lebanon would be free and the Lebanese Army would protect South Lebanon. Interesting, because now "Israel" is bombing the Lebanese Army it "wants to help" and up to 800,000 Lebanese civilians have been displaced by the "Israeli" aggression.
During this time, the Hizbollah leader, Hassan Nasrallah held off from serious retaliation. For the first day and a half, he limited his strikes to the northern borders areas, which have faced Hezbollah attacks in the past and are well protected.
He waited till late on July 13 before turning his guns on Haifa, even though we now know he could have targeted "Israel's" third largest city from the outset. A small volley of rockets directed at Haifa caused no injuries and looked more like a warning than an escalation.
It was another three days – days of constant "Israeli" bombardment of Lebanon, destroying the country and injuring countless civilians – before Nasrallah hit Haifa again, including a shell that killed eight workers in a railway depot.
No one should have been surprised. Nasrallah was doing exactly what he had threatened to do if "Israel" refused to negotiate and chose the path of war instead. Although the international media quoted his ominous televised message that "Haifa is just the beginning," Nasrallah in fact made his threat conditional on "Israel's" continuing strikes against Lebanon. In the same speech he warned: "As long as the enemy pursues its aggression without limits and red lines, we will pursue the confrontation without limits and red lines." Well, "Israel" did, and so now has Nasrallah.
To this day, Nasrallah has used up to a third of his rockets and not destroyed "Israel", so any claims that he is out to push the Jews into the sea (no matter how desirable that would be, if one replaces the term "Jews" by "Zionists") passes credibility. In fact, the initial facts are so deliberately twisted it is made to appear that Hizbollah attacked "Israeli" cities first and then only did "Israel" reluctantly retaliate in "self-defence". It’s a typical Bush media lie, believed by Bushies and those who want to believe in this sort of lie just because it reinforces their prejudices (like well over half the Indian media).
Meanwhile…
Meanwhile, "Israel" attacked a UN base and murdered four UN observers, despite repeated warningsand even some of the Zionist scum have begun having doubts.
Of course, Hizbollah is unbroken and fighting back so hard that the Zionists have abandoned their earlier aim of destroying it to "weakening" it and now talks of establishing a 2 kilometre buffer zone. So much for the words of one Indian moron, that "Israel" has "a will like iron."Meanwhile, attacks on civilians continue, using white phosphorus bombsand one hears of aggression lasting weeks rather than the initial few days the racist Zionist scum, so contemptuous of Hizbollah, had projected.
And listen to the words of "Israel’s" "justice minister", one Haim Ramon: ‘"Israel" is entitled to kill everyone in South Lebanon.' Just imagine if an Arab or Iranian leader ha said something like that. Where are the howls of media and American outrage?
Of course, it passeth understanding for the believers of Holy Bush and his "Praise Israel" campaign that "Israel" is just increasing support for Hizbollah.
That’s what you get when you start a course of "disproportionate response."
And serves you bloody well right, say I.
